Focusrite Usb Asio Driver 4.15
| I am using Studio One artist, 3.2.3. Since the very first day I have sometimes (not always. ) the wierd issue of having major noise/static sound after S1 automatically loads up my last project during startup, and I hit space to play back. Currently I still have Reaper installed since I moved from there, and inside that DAW I've never experienced this. I also found 1 or 2 other forum posts about this, but didnt help me much. After a little tickering around I found a quick and easy fix: after S1 loads, I open my preferences and change the audio device to another USB audio interface I have connected as well (FocusRite Scarlett 2i2), don't hit OK, but immediately change it back to the one I had selected before (Line 6 Helix, also USB) and hit OK. This fixes the problem 100% of the time. Now I am wondering, where is the problem? With Line 6 or with S1? I keep my Line 6 drivers / firmware up-to-date, and have updates several times but so far no fix. One thing I didnt try yet is to set the default audio interface to the 2i2 and try to load up to see if this can be reproduced. Will check that today. | I can confirm now that when using the Scarlett 2i2 during startup already this problem does not occur. So its a S1 / Line 6 Helix combination that seems to be the problem. | And another funny thing. I noticed this is not only during playback. For example, if I play through my external MIDI keyboard which is connected directly to my PC using USB (but still having the Helix as my audio interface in S1) I can hear the crackling / static coming through the sound of the samples. Even if I am not recording or playing back anything. | Sounds like the setting for Block Size/Buffer is too low for the Helix on that PC. Matt Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 Win 10 64bit, 8GB RAM, Intel Xeon Lenovo Thinkpad E520, Windows 7 64bit, 8 GB RAM, Intel i5 Processor S1Pro V4 |
| Could be, I've left it on default so far. But I can play around a little with that. Would be still strange, since swapping the to/from the FocusRite always solves the problem. | I'm a new Helix owner here, and a relative novice with Studio One 3, but I'm having the same issue. Using the Helix as my interface I get static sporadically during play back or even if I'm monitoring a track while adjusting my guitar sound. It does not appear to be the block size/buffer issue, as going from the lowest to the highest values both have the static, if anything the static is worse at higher values. I've switched their ASIO driver between 16,24,and 32 bit with no change to the problem. I'm going to raise the question on the Helix forums also, and see if an answer come up there. Jay |
By coincidence, I just started with the 2i2 Gen2 last night. In my FocusRite account there was usb ASIO driver 4.15. Download free video editor for mac. No other driver. So far have only tested for real time softsynth latency with BiaB (on Win10x64), using the default buffer. Binding of issac afterbirth patch download. My opinion is: A great studio session is one that runs quickly and efficiently. If you and your band mates are pressured into last minute problems or troubleshooting (such as vocal delivery, guitar melody, or rhythm section misalignment), it can be a real strain on the recording process. If you are looking to become a session musician, remember this saying: You might not be the best player in.

So I guess its really some kind of Line6 driver issue. Something else I noticed which you can maybe try: sometimes (not always. ) when I put the Helix in tune mode I can hear little pops through my speakers even when I am not playing anything in S1. | I figured out the issue on my end. I needed to change the output of any patch I was using on the Helix to route to USB 3/4 ( or 5/6 works too). By default the multi output routes everything to USB channels 1/2 which caused the noise for me. I believe being on 1/2 it was doubling the signal, as 1/2 are the channels Studio One routes back through the Helix on. Jay |
| Mine does that too actually. I'm using the Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 and the crackling will show up at random times, usually when I'm using Omnisphere 2 and certain instruments in Kontakt, and then it comes at random times when I'm playing back as well. The only way I solve this after screaming at my computer because of how frustrating it is, is just turning the interface off and then back on, and then going to preferences in S1 to reconnect it. It's usually gone after that. I don't think it's the interface though. I'm pretty sure it's just because my computer can't handle it. The computer I use is pretty slow and I'm pretty sure its specs are crappy so that probably explains why certain sounds make that noise. I remember reading that Line6 recommends to use those channels for reamping. So need to cross check this. But if this fixes the issue for you thats awesome. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. | This seems to solve the issue. But you are also effectively killing your 0 latency since now the audio first travels to the PC and then out to speakers/headphones. | I haven't really had a problem with latency. I'm running at a 128 buffer size with the Helix, and it sounds good, and what ever latency there may be, is not perceivable to me. Jay |

| I had the same problem (cracking, pops) during playback using the Helix as the external soundcard. I changed the input to channels 3 and 4 and apparently this solved my problem. I only say apparently since the popping and cracking is *currently* absent. For those users unfamiliar with this procedure, click the Studio One menu and select Options, select Audio Setup followed by Song. This enables you to select Input 3 and 4 for L and R. Thanks for the help! |
