Uhh… O.O So you know how I said that I thought Chou no Doku Hana no Kusari would be a great game? Well, I kinda take that back now. I mean, it wasn’t the game or the story that threw me off; it was the character route of Shiba. I’m pretty sure that *these* types of routes are extremely prevalent in R-18 otome games, but I just didn’t know it would be so…crude. I’m used to, like, lovey-dovey tsundere routes for all ages, where there’s nothing but kiss cgs. So this was a big shocker to my innocent eyes lol.

Not only Shiba, but the way the main character just kinda…takes it. O.O If it were me, I would have called the police or locked myself up in my room for safety. Meh.

So the games starts with the main character being groan-y and mopey because today’s her birthday. I don’t even remember how old she turned, but I’m guessing she’s around 20ish now. She’s a noblewoman and fairly wealthy (at least to the public eye). She got dressed up, but she thinks it’s unnecessary and akin to “putting a dress on a pig”, or something to that effect. Contrary to this, she’s actually purdy and apparently the only female that emits “a lust smell” (aka: pheromones). 😎

Basically, though, her dad’s using this b-day partayy to try and marry her off to a rich dude, because they’re in a lot of debt/money issues.

And then some d-bags (rogues, whatever) come to trash the partayyyy. Angered by them defiling her home, she attempts to attack them. While in the midst of this, this one rogue was about to attack the main character, but as she’s bracing herself for death, she was saved.

Some dude called SHIBA saves her. He acts all gentlemanly and stuff. He’s extremely rich, very possessive, very arrogant, very “savage-like”. He’s not refined at ALL like my Jin from Bloody Call. He’s like: “I’ve been looking for you…….” but she’s like: “Lol I ain’t gonna fall for that”.

I was really looking forward to his route, because, y’know: I was kinda waiting for that time when he showed his dere dere side and began to talk about how he became so douchey. His character story kinda reminds me of Jin from Bloody Call, except I liked Jin MUCH BETTER. Probably because he didn’t g—

Anywho~

Stuff goes on. Somehow, the main character’s dad died sometime during the party. In his hand was a Chinese bellflower…DUN DUN DUNNNNN. Anyway, after he died, the main character became all depressed. Shiba knew of their situation (their money problems), so he basically said that he’d pay for everything…on one condition. The main character would have to become his bride.

The main character is repulsed to this idea– she pretty much already labeled him as being an arrogant, savage, son-of-a-b. So when she tells her mom, her mom’s overjoyed probably because they’ll get free bling bling– that BITCH. Her mother know Shiba already and approves of him. WHO THE FUCK KNOWS WHY. Anyway, the main character’s older brother rages at this, calling his mom a fag or something. She’s so stressed, that she collapses. Turns out, she has breast cancer. Later, she dies in this insane bout.

Shiba invites the main character out for this dinner date thingy, and she agrees. Her elder brother wants her to bring someone with her so that she’s not raped or drugged or something, but she says that she’s tough enough and blah blah blah. So she goes. During the meal, she learns that Shiba basically is very popular with dem ladies, and he basically thinks it’s all a game or whatev. 🙄 She realizes that his personality is terrible. He only perpetuates this realization when, on the ride back, he drunkenly kisses her and forces a make-out session. =_= Then he says that she’s gonna become his wife, so it doesn’t really matter anyway.

At this time, I was reluctant to continue, because I was pretty sure he was gonna, like, rape her or something, but he didn’t. You know, whatever. He was drunk, so OBVIOUSLY it didn’t matter. 🙄

More stuff happens. Eventually, he apologizes for being drunk and kissing her. And I guess the main character doesn’t care, so all is forgiven. Also, we were introduced to some girl called Kyoko or something. She was the main character’s mom’s friend. I’m not sure why she’s in the story, excluding being a roadblock.

So, sometime later, Shiba invites the main character out for dinner at Kyoko’s place. The meal is…wild tiger?? Anyways, tiger meat is terrible tasting; I guess that’s why nobody eats it. Kyoko thinks Shiba and the main character are lovers, so she allows Shiba to take her to a room. What could go wrong here? 🙄

So Shiba gives her a pearl necklace and puts it around her neck. However, she says that she can’t accept it. If she did, it would be like she was selling herself. Shiba rages and says that she doesn’t like him and blah. So while she’s trying to take the necklace off, he’s trying to stop her. Eventually, the string snapped and the necklace broke. Shiba’s face was all dejected.

Then later she gets an invitation to his party. While there, she sees Shiba kiss Kyoko. She storms off and gets drunk. At the party, she hears people saying that Shiba was using her or something. When she confronts Shiba about this, he says that the kiss was just some greeting kiss?? Really? I can’t even. Then he says that the rumors are just rumors and she shouldn’t believe them. Well, she’s not convinced AND FRANKLY NEITHER AM I. He realizes that she’s jealous. After another forced kiss, he decides to push her on the bed and grope her while touching her genitals.

At this moment, I was ready to give up; I was ready to go back to my happy-ever-after all ages otome game with cute kiss cgs and cute tsundere characters. But I didn’t. For some fucking reason.

So after he starts touching her for a bit, she cries. When she cries, he’s like: “oh shit what am i doing” and lets her go. He expressed no remorse. WHAT THE FUCK. How could anyone like this giant dick of a character? I actually played to the end of it, so lemme explain real quick.

His mom was some prostitute. One day, there was a fire at the brothel and it killed his mom. After that, he lived in the orphanage. He met the main character when he was running away from some people. He hid in the bush and the people asked the main character where the boy was. She pointed somewhere else and they left. Then the girl gave the boy a white hankerchief to wipe the dirt off his face. She apparently thought that he was playing hide and seek with the other peeps. He promises not to become a demon.

After that, he studied and worked hard, to the point where he is today. He did this all because of Yuriko, the main character. He didn’t tell her because it didn’t sound manly. At this moment, I was just staring at the computer screen, asking myself what I was doing with my life.

I don’t even know when Yuriko fell in love with him, but I guess she did, cuz they ended up having sex. Blah blah blah. They get married and have more sex. At the end, Yuriko’s like: “is he an angel or a devil? i dunno, probably both trolololol” Then she said something to the effect that she still thought of him as savage and arrogant and -insert synonyms to douchebag here-, but whatever.

Last thoughts:
I would like him 21093572819488572211 times better if he wasn’t a chronic douchebag all the time, and if he didn’t try to force makeout/grope her a billion times. =_= After hearing his story, I feel bad for him. Still, his character has so many flaws… Why couldn’t they make Shiba have a “soft side” to him?? That would solve *almost all* of my complaints. The fact that he has no remorse or care for what he did is pretty much the thing that’s putting me off. He’s like a yandere…WITHOUT THE DERE. That’s just not cool, man.

I also did another ending: a bittersweet end where Yuriko gets angry at Shiba for everything, but pretends she loves him. When they get married, she decides to poison him slowly each day. He knows she’s poisoning him, but he’s just so happy that she’s finally with him. He dies with her by his side. If Shiba showed this compassion in his “good” ending, he’d be golden. BUT NO. Y GAME??? Y U DO DIS??? Shiba had so much potential for redemption. SO MUCH.
